Breville the Bakery Chef

A flexible-edge scraper beater and 360-degree planetary action clear the bowl wall automatically, cutting manual scraping other mixers require. Double batches of stiff dough still rock the tilt head.

WHY THE PRICE IS JUSTIFIED

Its $450 is visible in the die-cast body, all-metal gearing, two genuinely useful bowls, load-sensitive drive, timer, work light and a scraper that improves real mixing—not decorative trim. It is less honest for bread specialists because stiff double batches rock the head, and sparse service documentation makes it a poorer lifetime proposition than KitchenAid.

MATERIALS

BodyDie-cast metal

Adds rigidity and useful counter mass.

Gear train100% metal gears

Improves durability and loaded power transfer over disposable plastic drives.

Large bowlBorosilicate glass

Lets the baker see incorporation, though it is heavy.

Small bowlPolished stainless steel

A lighter 4 qt option improves batch-size flexibility.

Scraper beaterMetal with flexible scraper edge

Continuously clears the wall, improving coverage and reducing stops.

CRITERIA

8/10
Torque Under LoadLoad sensing holds ordinary dough and dense cookies; stiff or double dough batches visibly strain it.
9/10
Bowl CoverageManufacturer specifies planetary 360° action; independent testing praises the scraper for cakes and cookies.
8/10
Counter StabilityDie-cast base stays put, but the tilt head rocks during heavy multi-loaf dough.
9/10
Speed ControlTwelve labeled speeds and load sensing are smooth; timer can stop the mixer automatically.
8/10
Thermal EnduranceStrong for full home sessions, but not the right machine for repeated stiff double batches.
5/10
RepairabilityMetal gears and motor warranty help, but public service documentation and parts access trail KitchenAid/Bosch.
9/10
Capacity FitIncluded 5 qt glass and 4 qt steel bowls cover more realistic batch sizes than one oversized bowl.

IDEAL FOR

  • ·Cakes, cookies and enriched dough
  • ·Users who value timers and work lights
  • ·Mixed batch sizes
  • ·Design-forward kitchens

NOT FOR

  • ·Repeated stiff bagel dough
  • ·DIY repair enthusiasts
  • ·Accessory-hub users

DESIGN & ERGONOMICS

Best-in-class daily interface: labeled 12-speed dial, countdown timer, bowl light and side-scraping beater. Two bowls nest for storage. The glass bowl is heavy, the head-release button is awkward with long nails, and there is no accessory hub.

LONGEVITY

All-metal gears and a five-year motor warranty are reassuring; expect good home life, but limited parts/service information makes post-warranty longevity less certain.
