Price bands: under $100 buys excellent conventional hardened-steel U-locks—strong against bolt cutters and leverage, but not a defense against a portable grinder. Around $200–$300 is the meaningful step up: ceramic, carbide, diamond or composite armor forces disc/battery changes and, with anti-rotation/double locking, two cuts. LITELOK
Top PickBarronium ceramic armor forces two full grinder cuts and multiple discs in independent testing, yet the shackle weighs just 1.7 kg. A rare case where lab-verified resistance meets daily carryability.
$270
Tungsten-carbide armor covers both shackle and body, leaving loads of lock remaining after road.cc's grinder test. Its 223 x 105 mm opening and included mount fit cargo bikes and thick anchors other armored locks can't reach.
$330
A vise-clamped grinder needed four and a half minutes to cut one side of this rectangular double-locked shackle, then required a second cut. Fit stays tight at 155 x 92 mm, so measure your rack first.
$80
Seatylock
The lightest Sold Secure Diamond-rated lock on the market uses a triangular shackle profile that cuts weight, not resistance. An automatic keyway shutter and 3-year warranty support daily carry over brute mass.
$50
Kryptonite
BUDGETA double-deadbolt oval crossbar and 14 mm hardened steel held up through a year of daily use with no reported issues, priced near $50. Solid against bolt cutters and leverage, not built to survive an angle grinder.
$55
OnGuard
16.8 mm hardened TriRadius steel resisted bolt cutters entirely in OutdoorGearLab testing and needed two separate grinder cuts, all for roughly $55. No composite armor here, so pair with awareness in grinder-prone areas.
